LIDL
Location
Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset, UK - 1998
Main contractor
HBG
Works undertaken
The original specification for pavement construction in external parking areas was amended to allow for subsoil stabilisation to be used to treat suitable available soils to depths of 250mm and 350mm, to a specification equivalent to a capping material (i.e. with a 15% soaked CBR value, and frost resistance where appropriate, where the stabilised soils lay within the frost heave layer). Approximately 5600m3 of primarily clay, with some silty sand deposits, were treated in lieu of offsite removal of surplus spoil, and to replace imported capping material. The works were carried out over a period of 2 weeks, in April 1998.
