DATUM Puppy Update

We recently caught up with Heath, Quin's Guide Dog Trainer, to find out how his early training is progressing, he describes Quin as a "really friendly and accomplished dog". Recently Heath and Quin did a blindfold walk, which is where Heath is blindfolded and led by Quin, with the supervision of another Guide Dog Mobility Instructor. This helps to consolidate everything Quin has learnt over the past few weeks, he did really well keeping a nice straight line down the pavement and stopped for traffic when necessary. To practice other 'real-life' situations, Heath has also taken Quin to busy supermarkets, where the bustle of people and store layouts means he is able to practice negotiating obstacles, and signal to his handler when the direction that they are going in is too narrow to continue. Heath describes Quin as a "genuinely special boy". He's really excelled under Heath's care and will soon be moving on to his advanced training.
