Oxygenating CSO Screen

26-02-2015

CSO Technik’s Pump Action Screen has been selected for the city of Heumen in the Netherlands to provide the dual benefit of protecting the receiving water course from sewage related debris with the additional benefit of increasing the oxygen levels in the sewer and overflow discharge. The Pump Action Screen incorporates a stainless steel screening basket with 6mm perforations to provide effective screening at the combined storm overflow. The screen is kept clean by a scouring action imparted by a submersible pump that utilises a mixture of the waste water and air entrained via a Venturi as the scouring medium. Whilst it has always been recognised that there is an unintentional benefit of oxygen transfer from the entrained air no definitive testing has ever been undertaken. The oxygen transfer efficiency derived from the operation of the Pump Action Screen will now be tested in the Netherlands on a number of schemes over the next 12 months. Oxygen transfer capabilities aside the Pump Action screen offers a simple robust screen with no moving parts other that the Pump itself. With the pump mounted on guide rails there is no need for any below ground confined space maintenance of the screen. Maintenance can also be undertaken without any further specialist training of staff. The Pump Action Screen has been successfully installed throughout Europe with more than 100 installations throughout the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain etc... Colin Froud, Managing Director of CSO Technik, comments “We are delighted that our export sales and markets for the Pump Action screen continue to expand, this is particularly important as the UK market for CSO screens contracts”.
