CELTIC AND W & WU WIN BROWNFIELD BRIEFING AWARD

21-07-2016

Celtic’s Joint entry with Wales and West Utilities (W & WU) won the Best Public Participation award for the work carried out on the Briton Ferry former gasworks site. The technical challenge faced was clear – 0.4 hectares of contaminated former gasworks land, including two below-ground gasholder bases, a large slow-worm population and a dense area of Japanese Knotweed, and accessible only via two narrow lanes. The objective was to remediate the the site to a suitable standard whilst not adversely impacting surrounding residential properties located on all sides. It was essential our remediation works sensitively considered how to proceed, reducing the disruption the community had already endured throughout previous works, whilst maintaining exceptional levels of site safety protecting pupils of the adjacent Llansawel Primary School. Engaging the community in respect of the work remained a priority throughout the project and included regular contact with stakeholders. Regular updates were provided in regard to the remediation proposal and solution, the reasons for the works and the aspects of the works directly relating to the stakeholders. There was also l regular contact and updates with NPTCBC, NRW and the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot as well as with Llansawel Primary School. Furthermore, the team decided to hold a fund raising rely marathon for the school, raising more than £2,500 in the process. Celtic’s Managing Director, Dr Joe Teer said “I am delighted with this industry recognition which once again confirms the quality of work and professionalism of the Celtic-EnGlobe team.” For further information, please visit www.celtic-ltd.com and www.wwutilities.co.uk
