Ed Miliband Visits Leading Green Technology Companies

Leader of the opposition celebrates the success of Advanced Plasma Power and Tetronics Global green technology leaders Advanced Plasma Power (APP) and Tetronics International were today visited by Labour Party Leader Ed Miliband, as he recognised the important role environmental companies have to play in driving UK economic growth. During the visit, Miliband learnt of the Swindon based companies’ successes and plans for the future. APP, an advanced waste to energy and fuels company employing Tetronics technology, has been working with National Grid on a project – the first of its kind – that demonstrates how to use waste to produce bio-substitute natural gas (Bio-SNG). It has developed a shovel ready commercial project in Birmingham for which it is seeking funding and has also been expanding overseas, signing a £20m contract in June this year to supply its Gasplasma® technology to a waste to energy project in Port of Hamilton, Canada. Meanwhile, Tetronics’ technology, which uses pioneering plasma treatment to process and recover valuable resources from waste as well as treat hazardous materials, has been selected as one of a number of projects funded by government agency Innovate UK. The company has also gone from strength to strength internationally with growing sales in USA, Europe and the Far East. Miliband took the opportunity to express his support for companies which are helping the UK to become a world leader in green technology, and providing high-skilled jobs in the South West and across the country. Miliband’s visit follows a visit to the companies in the summer by Trade Minister, Lord Livingston. APP and Tetronics staff had the opportunity to hear about Miliband’s environmental and economic plans in the run up the General Election. Rolf Stein, CEO of APP, said: “Ed took a real interest in our technology and could see the huge potential it has to transform how we look at wasted energy resources in the UK and beyond.
