Polyurethane timing belts can accumulate significant static charges during regular use, addressable through TransDev's antistatic coating and assessed with the TransDev Antistatic Conductivity Meter. Dielectric materials, being poor conductors, generate static charges when separated from conductive or insulating materials, resulting in sparking or crackling due to the capacitance effect. This phenomenon persists even when belts, initially insulating, run on metal pulleys.
