Traction batteries for forklift trucks are expensive. This is why Fronius, the Austrian know-how leader in the field of battery charging systems, has launched the new “Selectiva” range of battery charging systems; this new generation features the Ri charging process, which among other things significantly increases the service life of traction batteries. A new control unit now extends battery-life even further. It clearly shows which battery in a large secondary battery charging station is currently the coolest so that it can be removed without further ado. Its name: “Cool Battery Guide - Easy”. Who recognises this everyday scenario in companies operating a fleet of forklift trucks with secondary batteries? The drivers take the charged batteries that are quickest and easiest to reach from the battery charging station or battery charging facilities. This procedure is not optimal for the battery’s life-expectancy due to some batteries being used more often than others. Such batteries show defects earlier and their life-expectancy decreases whereby unneeded costs arise. The control unit “Cool Battery Guide – Easy” will provide effective support: Cooling a battery after charging, increases the life-expectancy. A color system indicates the forklift truck driver which of the charged batteries has cooled down the most. The LED on the new Selectiva battery charging system lights up in three colors: yellow during the charging process, green when the battery is fully charged, and blue, when it is cool enough and ready to be used. A minute counter is therefore a useful extra, as it indicates which of the charged batteries has cooled down the most and should be the first to be used.
